The Pittsburgh Penguins faced off against the Carolina Hurricanes for the third time this season. The Hurricanes would take a penalty late in the 1st period and the captain would take full advantage. Kris Letang would shoot one on net for a rebound out front. Sidney Crosby would follow the rebound and put it in the back of the net for a power-play goal and a 1-0 lead for the Penguins. Less than 15 seconds later, the Hurricanes would have their first response to the goal. Martin Necas would tie the game at 1 each, but the Hurricanes were not done yet. Only 17 seconds after their first goal, Jalen Chatfield would give the lead to Carolina, making it 2-1 to end the 1st period. The 2nd period would be filled with penalties on both sides. While killing off one of their penalties, the Penguins’ Brock McGinn would score a short-handed goal to tie it back up at two each. With the start of the 3rd, both teams battled hard. Half way through, Bryan Rust would sneak one past the Hurricanes goaltender giving the lead back to the Penguins. Jordan Staal would have the answer to Rust’s goal and force overtime. Quickly after the puck dropped, it was over. Jacob Slavin would put the final goal in giving the Hurricanes the 4-3 victory.
