Great Britain’s Katie Archibald and Elinor Barker put in a dominant display to win the women’s madison at the UCI Track Nations Cup in Adelaide.

The British pair did not get or need any points from the final sprint as they finished on a total of 31.

Australia won the last sprint to take second with 27 points, while the United States were third on 23.

“[The strategy was] to go out aggressively and be at a point where we can defend,” said Archibald.

“We’ve come in really early for this race. We’ve been fully acclimatised.

“We were pretty ready for the heat, suffered with it still, but came in ready for the challenge and really glad to pull that off with a win.”

Barker added: “I’m really happy and proud of us.”

The three-day event in Adelaide is the first of three Nations Cup rounds, which will complete the qualifying period for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Following the first round in Australia, riders will compete in Hong Kong from 15-17 March and Milton, Canada from 12-14 April.
