The American League Championship Series heads to Cleveland with the New York Yankees up 2-0 on the Cleveland Guardians after their big bats jumped all over the AL Central champs in the first two games in The Bronx. Giancarlo Stanton and Juan Soto both hit home runs in the 5-2 Game 1 win, while Aaron Judge went deep in New York’s 6-3 win in Game 2. The Yankees haven’t been to the World Series since 2009, and they’re halfway to their 41st AL pennant in the 2024 ALCS.

With the series headed to the Midwest, the Guardians do have an opportunity to get back in the series on home turf, where they’ve been good this year. At 50-30, Cleveland had the best regular-season home record in the American League. Also, the Guardians took two of the three games at Progressive Field in the ALDS against the Tigers.

The Yankees will send starter Clarke Schmidt (0-0, 3.86 ERA, 4.2 IP, 4 K 1 BB in 2024 postseason) to the mound for his second start of the playoffs against Matthew Boyd, who hasn’t allowed a run in his two postseason outings (0-0, 0.00 ERA, 6.2 IP 10, K 3 BB) for the Guardians with first pitch set for 5:08 p.m. ET.
