It’s very hard to dig yourself out from rock bottom in the NBA. Just ask the Detroit Pistons, who have only made the playoffs twice since 2009, and got swept in the first round both times.

They’ve more or less been stuck in the Eastern Conference cellar for a decade-and-a-half with flattened lottery odds, but – at long last – their fortunes may finally be poised to improve.

Despite enduring another ugly season in 2021-2022, the Pistons are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel – and a leap out of the gutter is in store next season.
