Mike Norvell faced a tall task on the recruiting trail after a wave of dismissals in the back half of the 2024 season and a 2-10 final record.
Although Florida State lost coveted offensive lineman Solomon Thomas to LSU, their commitment from top EDGE Javion Hilson, and three other marquee recruits to Florida, the Seminoles still did more than their fair share of flipping that produced a competitive 2025 class — especially during the early signing period.
Ousmane Kromah (Georgia commit), LaJesse Harrold (LSU commit), Jayvan Boggs (UCF commit), Tylon Lee (Ole Miss commit), and Tae’shaun Gelsey (Florida commit), are just a few of the rabbits pulled from Norvell’s hat between Dec. 4-6, and others came either shortly before or after. Rounding out a staff and tapping Gus Malzahn for the offensive coordinator role certainly helped his cause.
Recruiting: 10 Florida football players who could get immediate playing time in college
The Seminoles still hold two commitments that have yet to sign. Chaves Thompson, a three-star offensive tackle from Cocoa, along with Antonio Cromartie Jr., a three-star Carrolton (Ga.) cornerback, are expected to round out Norvell’s 2025 class.
Despite a nightmare scenario of a season for Norvell, he still managed to land the No. 20 class on 247Sports. The Seminoles sit one spot above Missouri and one behind Georgia Tech in the 247Sports Composite ranking, and have the third-best class in the ACC behind the Yellow Jackets and Miami (No. 14 overall).
With the Feb. 5 National Signing Day approaching, here is a look at the Seminole’s 2025 class.
Kevin Wynn, Defensive Lineman
Ranking: Four-star on 247Sports, No. 10 DL in the nation
Height, Weight: 6-foot-2, 340 pounds
What to Know: Wynn, one of the Seminoles’ top-rated players in the 2025 cycle, committed to FSU over the summer and enrolled early despite a late push from South Carolina in the fall. He tallied 27.0 TFL with 7.0 sacks for Greene County (Ga.) last year.
Ousmane Kromah, Running Back
Ranking: Four-star on 247Sports, No. 4 RB in the nation
Height, Weight: 6-foot, 205 pounds
What to Know: Kromah is arguably one of the more impressive flips that Norvell pulled off this cycle, pulling Kromah away from his Hometown Georgia Bulldogs on signing day. He was one of two ball-carriers to eclipse 1,000 rushing yards at Lee County (Ga.), and finished his senior year with 1,356 yards and 15 touchdowns on 168 carries.
LaJesse Harrold, EDGE
Ranking: Four-star on 247Sports, No. 17 overall in the USA Today Florida Top 100
Height, Weight: 6-foot-5, 230 pounds
What to Know: The Noles pushed hard for Harold, who was an LSU commit and ranked as the No. 3 EDGE in the state. FSU got Harold to take an official visit the weekend before the early signing period, and he walked back his pledge to LSU before making the trip to Tallahassee. Harold signed at the buzzer of the early signing period and has enrolled early. He registered 16.0 TFL, 11.0 Sacks, two forced fumbles, an interception, and six pass breakups at Gaither.
Mario Nash Jr., Interior Offensive Lineman
Ranking: Four-star on 247Sports, No. 13 IOL in the nation
Height, Weight: 6-foot-4, 280 pounds
What to Know: Nash Jr. and the rest of the offensive line at Kemper County (Miss.) helped the Wildcats average over 400 yards of total offense per game. Nash Jr. had originally committed to Mississippi State after a visit over the summer, but FSU got him to decommit a few days after a visit to Tallahassee in October. He named the Seminoles another few days after that. He signed and is on campus.
Gregory Thomas, Cornerback
Ranking: Four-star on 247Sports, No. 61 overall in the USA Today Florida Top 100
Height, Weight: 6-foot-2, 185 pounds
What to Know: Thomas is poised to make history as the first member of the native Seminole tribe to play on scholarship at Florida State. He stayed tethered to class despite keeping his options open early in the year and signed in the early signing period. He finished the year with 34 solo tackles and one interception.
Jayvan Boggs, Wide Receiver
Ranking: Three-star on 247Sports, No. 25 overall in the USA Today Florida Top 100
Height, Weight: 6-foot, 200 pounds
What to Know: Although his teammate and quarterback Brady Hart won it, Boggs had more than a compelling case to win his second-straight Florida Dairy Farmer’s Player of the Year award. He tallied 2,133 receiving yards with 21 touchdowns on 99 catches and eclipsed 100 yards receiving in every game but one on the way to Cocoa’s third-straight state title. Boggs reeled in 17 catches for 378 yards and three scores in the regional championship that booked their ticket to the state final. His recruitment was hectic, but he eventually flipped from UCF to FSU on signing day after Gus Malzahn’s hiring.
Chase Loftin, Tight End
Ranking: Three-star on 247Sports, No. 26 TE in the nation
Height, Weight: 6-foot-6, 215 pounds
What to Know: The Seminoles were Loftin’s first and only commitment after he spent the summer visiting Nebraska, Texas A&M, Missouri, and Tallahassee. Loftin tallied a team-high 837 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns on 57 catches for Millard South (Neb.) on the way to an NSAA state title.
Tylon Lee, Edge
Ranking: Three-star on 247Sports, No. 38 overall in the USA Today Florida Top 100
Height, Weight: 6-foot-4, 245 pounds
What to Know: Lee was originally the crown jewel in UCF’s 2025 class, but he flipped to Ole Miss in late October after the Knights’ coaching shakeup. The Seminoles got him on campus the weekend before the early signing period and flipped him on Dec. 6, just in time to enroll early. He finished the year at Pace with 87 total tackles, 6.0 sacks, two forced fumbles, and three PBUs.
Tae’shaun Gelsey, Receiver
Ranking: Three-star on 247Sports, No. 60 overall in the USA Today Florida Top 100
Height, Weight: 6-foot-4, 215 pounds
What to Know: Gelsey was a longtime Florida commit and was likely going to be a tight end for the Gators. It was rumored that he would prefer to play outside, and the Seminoles worked hard to show Gelsey they love big receivers in his three trips to Tallahassee over the fall. Norvell completed the flip late into the evening on Dec. 4, and Gelsey has since enrolled early. He finished the year with 875 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns on 61 catches for Riverside.
Darryll Desir, Edge
Ranking: Three-star on 247Sports, No. 67 overall in the USA Today Florida Top 100
Height, Weight: 6-foot-5, 240 pounds
What to Know: Desir chose UCF in July but decommitted after the Knights dismissed defensive coordinator Ted Roof. He flipped to Florida State a day after reopening his recruitment and enrolled early. Desir tallied 18.0 TFL with 9.0 sacks at Miami Norland.
Mandrell Desir, Edge
Ranking: Three-star on 247Sports, No. 90 overall in the USA Today Florida Top 100
Height, Weight: 6-foot-4, 240 pounds
What to Know: Twin brother of Darryll Desir, Mandrell also walked back his pledge to UCF in favor of Florida State in early November. Seventeen of his 71 total tackles went for a loss along with 12.0 sacks.
Ethan Pritchard, Linebacker
Ranking: Three-star on 247Sports, No. 66 overall in the USA Today Florida Top 100
Height, Weight: 6-foot-1, 200 pounds
What to Know: Pritchard has long been tethered to Florida State, naming the Seminoles in the fall of his junior year and only visiting Tallahassee since. He was the first player to sign with Florida State, inking before 9 a.m. on signing day. He tallied 101 total tackles with 17.0 TFL.
Shamar Arnoux, Cornerback
Ranking: Three-star on 247Sports, No. 55 CB in the nation
Height, Weight: 6-foot-2, 175 pounds
What to Know: Arnoux committed to four schools before signing with Florida State. He pledged to Tennessee in his junior year before decommiting in February 2024 and naming USC that summer. Next came Auburn, who flipped the Carrolton (Ga.) product in mid-November. The Noles flipped him on signing day and he is on campus in Tallahassee.
Kevin Sperry, Quarterback
Ranking: Three-star on 247Sports, No. 49 QB in the nation
Height, Weight: 6-foot-1, 200 pounds
What to Know: Sperry’s signing was a result of the Seminole’s mismanagement of the Carter Smith saga, an elite quarterback prospect who decommitted from Michigan in the fall. Florida State went after Smith, losing a longtime commitment from Tramell Jones Jr. in the process (who flipped to Florida). When Wisconsin emerged as favorites to land Smith, the Seminoles flipped Sperry from his nearly two-year-long commitment to Oklahoma. Sperry tossed for 2,523 yards for 27 touchdowns and nine interceptions on 160-of-288 completions at Guyer (Texas). He also rushed for 1,156 yards and eight more scores on 173 carries.
Max Redmon, Safety
Ranking: Three-star on 247Sports, No. 96 over in the USA Today Florida Top 100
Height, Weight: 6-foot-2, 190 pounds
What to Know: Redmon committed to Florida State in the summer and visited just Mississippi State and Tallahassee in the fall before signing. He played two ways at Cardinal Newman and managed 222 yards and four scores on 16 catches.
Brunno Reus, Kicker
Ranking: Three-star on 247Sports, No. 4 Kicker in the nation
Height, Weight: 6-foot, 190 pounds
What to Know: Reus was a standout for Venice, which is loaded with Power 4 talent and played one of the toughest schedules in the country on the way to a Class 7A state title. Reus set a single-season state record for points scored by a kicker (119) in the state final win over Lake Mary.
Teriq Mallory, Wide Receiver
Ranking: Three-star on 247Sports, No. 138 WR in the nation
Height, Weight: 6-foot-5, 190 pounds
What to Know: Florida State got Mallory, a then long-time West Virginia commit, to visit just over a week after extending an offer in late November. He flipped one day before the early signing period and signed in favor of Norvell and crew. Mallory reeled in a team-best 49 passes at Cheshire Academy (Conn.) for 691 yards and eight touchdowns.
Sean Poret, Interior Offensive Lineman
Ranking: Three-star on 247Sports, No. 100 IOL in the nation
Height, Weight: 6-foot-5, 270 pounds
What to Know: Poret committed to USF over the summer after an official visit to Tampa. He was another last-minute flip for Florida State, which got him to visit Tallahassee a few days before the start of the signing period. Norvell completed the flip over Vanderbilt and North Carolina State on signing day. Riverwood (Ga.) finished with a 1-9 record on the year.
Junior College Signings
Tyeland Coleman, DL: Coleman (6-foot-4, 285 pounds), is rated as the No. 8 Juco player in the country and No. 5 defensive lineman by 247Sports.
Jordan Scott, WR: Scott (6-foot-7, 215 pounds) is the exclamation point to one of the biggest receiver classes in the country. He’s ranked as the No. 12 Juco product in the country by 247Sports, and the No. 2 wide receiver.
