— Crewe Youth Academy

Managed by Dario Gradi from 1983 to 2011, before he stepped down to look after just the youth system. Gradi had a big interest in the success of the Crewe Academy as he had a clause giving him a percentage of any profit sold to another club. As academy players technically were entirely profit, he earned massive amounts from selling players.

Gradi also had a good eye for signing players. He made few signings, but the players he did purchase were usually both young and cheap with high potential.
