The Oklahoma City Thunder have landed the 4th best odds in the 2021 NBA draft after they owned the tiebreaker over the Cleveland Cavaliers. General Manager Sam Presti has kicked off the Thunder’s rebuild this season after acquiring up to 19 first round picks up until 2027, after trading superstars Russell Westbrook, Paul George, Chris Paul, Dennis Schroder and Steven Adams over the past two offseasons. After drafting Serbian forward Aleksej Pokusevski and French point guard Theo Maledon in the 2020 NBA draft, the tanking Thunder have finished the 2020-2021 season with one of the league’s worst records at 22-50. And right now, OKC has landed one of the best lottery odds for the 2021 draft joining teams like the Rockets, Magic, Pistons, and Cavs in the top 5 to potentially draft top prospects like Cade Cunningham, Evan Mobley, Jalen Suggs, Jalen Green or Jonathan Kuminga. The Thunder have been competitive to begin the season with young star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander playing like an all-star, together with great play from sophomore guard Luguentz Dort and wing Darius Bazley, as well as solid support from veteran big man Al Horford. But after SGA’s injury and after Horford has sat out for the rest of the season, the Thunder have been one of the worst teams in the league. And though is the case, this young Thunder core still features some promising young players like undrafted center Moses Brown, versatile forward Isaiah Roby, point guard Ty Jerome and wing man Svi Mykhailiuk. The team also signed Argentinian forward Gabriel Deck towards the end of the year, as well as Gleague guys Jaylen Hoard and Charlie Brown Jr. And with all these players together with all those Thunder draft picks for the next seven years, Oklahoma City’s future looks as bright as ever, But how long will the Thunder’s rebuild last? Will Shai Gilgeous-Alexander become an all-star? Will Pokusevski develop to be a star? And how high will the Thunder’s pick be in the 2021 NBA draft?
