The Cleveland Cavaliers had one of the biggest moves this 2022 NBA offseason when they traded for Donovan Mitchell from the Utah Jazz. The Cavs traded away young pieces such as Collin Sexton, Lauri Markkanen, Ochai Agbaji, together with 3 future unprotected first round picks and 2 first round pick swaps. However, the Cleveland Cavaliers now have a strong young core which features Donovan Mitchell, first-time All-Stars in Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen, plus Rookie of the Year contender Evan Mobley. The Utah Jazz rebuild has been on the way and the Cavs have been one of its biggest beneficiaries after the Donovan Mitchell trade to Cleveland. The Cavs almost ended their 3-year playoff absence last season despite losing in the Play-in tournament. However, we saw the kind of talent that this Cavs young core has in Garland, Mobley, and Allen. Adding Donovan Mitchell to Coach JB Bickerstaff’s young team should only increase the team’s playoff ceiling, which already has steady veterans in Ricky Rubio and Kevin Love.
When Collin Sexton and Ricky Rubio went out for the season, the Cavs struggled to score and Darius Garland obviously needed some offensive help. The Cavs traded for Caris LeVert just days before the trade deadline and Cleveland featured a big defensive lineup which featured Jarrett Allen, Evan Mobley, and Lauri Markkanen, but it wasn’t enough to get them to the playoffs, despite adding another veteran guard in Rajon Rondo. But now, the Cavs have one of the most talented backcourts in the NBA with Donovan MItchell and Darius Garland. Spida MItchell failed to take Utah to the next level together with Rudy Gobert. But in Cleveland, Donovan Mitchell will have a talented frontcourt in Allen and Mobley, as well as some steady wing help in Isaac Okoro, Lamar Stevens, and Dean Wade, But are the Cavs finally championship contenders after the Donovan Mitchell trade?
