When Artūras Karnišovas was named the Bulls executive vice president in April of 2020, he vowed to take the Bulls from bottom feeders to contenders in the Eastern conference. In the three seasons prior to his hiring, the team hadn’t won more than thirty games in a season. However, the team did have an emerging star in Zach LaVine, who was fresh off of a 25.5 point per game season. In his first season in charge, he made a big splash at the trade deadline, dealing for star big man Nikola Vucevic from the Orlando Magic. It was a big first step for the Bulls, and a positive one, but they were far from done. They brought in three key players, DeMar DeRozan, Lonzo Ball, and Alex Caruso. The team now had a big three with LaVine, DeRozan, and Vucevic who all had just played at all-star levels. Then Lonzo was a very important number 4. And in the first year of the new Bulls, they looked great, holding the number one seed in the Eastern conference as late as February 5th, 2022. However, Lonzo got hurt in January with a season ending meniscus tear, and the team was never the same. They fell all the way to the 6th seed by the time the playoffs rolled around, and lost to the Bucks in round one. Without their floor general and best defender as well as a good shooter in Lonzo, they team couldn’t contend. He wasn’t an all-star in year one with Chicago, but he was an extremely high end starter, and the loss of his presence was felt. The Bulls were without their point guard for all of last season as well, and they ended up losing in the play-in and missing the playoffs entirely. Despite a disappointing 2023 campaign, as well as the news that Lonzo likely won’t play this season either due to continuing complications with his knee, they brought back Vooch in free agency, and are going to run it back with their big three one more time. However, with DeRozan entering the last year of his contract, this core will not see another chance after this season if they struggle again. Yet despite everything I just told you, the Chicago Bulls could be the East’s biggest wild card.

Think about subbing, I’m on the road to 10k!!!
