The University of Texas System board of regents has approved a raise and contract extension for head football coach Steve Sarkisian. Sark is coming off a second consecutive season in which the team reached the semifinals of the college football playoffs.

The new deal extends Sark’s contract by one year through the 2031 season and raises his 2025 salary from $10.4 million to $10.8 million. Sarkisian’s annual raises will push his salary to $12.3 million by the final year of the deal in ’31. Sark agreed to the contract extension in January soon after the Texas coach was named as a possible candidate to fill one of several NFL head coaching vacancies, including the Dallas Cowboys.

The regents also approved raises and one-year contract extensions for special teams coordinator Jeff Banks and linebackers coach Johnny Nansen. Banks is extended to 2027, when he will earn $1.3 million. Nansen was extended to 2026, when he will earn $1.2 million.

Texas is the only team to make the CFP two years in a row. The Longhorns reached No. 1 in both polls during the 2024 season and played in the SEC championship game in its first year in the conference. The 50-year-old Texas head coach is 38-17 in four seasons on the 40 Acres.
