Memphis Grizzlies select Santi Aldama with the 2021 NBA Draft’s No. 30 overall pick.

The 20-year-old big man is one of the biggest hopes of the next Spanish basketball generation. Santi Aldama was selected by the Memphis Grizzlies with the 30th pick overall in the last NBA Draft. After spending two seasons at Loyola Maryland in the NCAA, he is about to play his rookie season in the strongest basketball league.

“I’m very happy, the NBA is a dream come true for me. The Summer League has been very useful in helping me get into the dynamics of the team and prepare for the season. The NBA has always been a goal and a dream for me, but I’d be lying if I said that a few years ago I imagined being here,” said the Spanish youngster.

“I believe I landed in a very good situation for me. Memphis has a lot of Spanish tradition, both Pau and Marc played here and everyone around here has only good things to say about the Gasol family. I talked to Marc before coming here and he helped me a lot.”

Aldama has often been compared to Pau Gasol but he believes that those comparisons are unfair: “Comparisons are often unfair, everyone is in his own way so making comparisons doesn’t make much sense to me. I focus on being the best version of myself.”
