Not every player in the NHL deserves to stay in the league.
The Detroit Red Wings have many players contributing to their recent success. Lucas Raymond, Moritz Seider, Dylan Larkin, and Patrick Kane are all doing their part to make the Red Wings a competitive team.
However, one player who didn’t start the season on the team is making a big impact recently.
The behemoth, Elmer Soderblom, is in the middle of a hot streak.
The 6-foot-8 winger had another great game in the Red Wings win over the Vancouver Canucks. He played 14:49, the most since he was called up to the NHL.
He recorded an assist and a hit during that time. He has now scored four points in four straight games. It’s clear that he needed some time to find his legs, but now that he has, it’s great news for the Red Wings.

Having a player of his size and stature is an incredible asset. His ability to use his body more to protect the puck when it’s in his possession will make him incredibly difficult to handle at the NHL level. It helps that he isn’t shy to throw his body around, as his 13 hits demonstrate.
Throw some offense into that mix, and Soderblom has the makings to be a middle-six winger, at the very least. His most common linemates have been Michael Rasmussen, Jonatan Berggren, and Christian Fischer.
Soderblom has played in seven games so far in 2024-25. If he continues on his current production rate over the next 29 games, he could finish the year with 20 points.
Over an entire 82-game season, that would be 47 points.
That’s some great production from a player at the bottom of the lineup. That alone should allow Soderblom to remain with the NHL team.
He’s been earning his minutes and should continue to have a seat at the table.
