La Liga giants Barcelona have confirmed that defender Oscar Mingueza has, on Friday, committed his future to the club.

Barca breakout

21-year-old Mingueza has of course exploded onto the scene at the Camp Nou this season.

The versatile stopper is a central-defender by trade, but can also play at right-back or even wing-back, the kind of versatility which has seen Ronald Koeman hand Mingueza an increasingly prominent role of late.

Before the current campaign, the Blaugrana youth product had not managed a single senior appearance for the club.

Since, though, he has racked up an impressive 29 outings across all competitions, including 21 La Liga starts, as Barca continue their push to wrestle back Spanish top-flight supremacy from Real Madrid.

Not only that, but, across his time on the pitch to date, Mingueza has even managed to chip in with two goals and three assists.

Staying put

Despite his stellar breakout season, however, Mingueza’s future in Catalunya had actually long remained up in the air.

This came with the stopper’s Barca contract having been due to expire this summer, with a host of clubs across the continent having no doubt been keeping a close eye on the situation.

As outlined above, though, on Friday, any remaining speculation surrounding Mingueza’s intentions has been put to bed.

In an official announcement across the club’s social media platforms, the Blaugrana have confirmed that their highly regarded young talent has put pen to paper on a new deal, through to 2023.

Mingueza’s release clause now stands at €100 million.
