When it comes to postseason monsters, there are few that have done it as consistently as Altuve has in an Astros jersey.

The Houston infielder may be of short stature, but he is a giant when the calendar turns to October. There’s a reason why the Astros have reached the World Series four times since Altuve joined in 2011, and have two rings to show for it.

Altuve impacts the game in a plethora of ways, and the one that may be most surprising is his power. Despite his height, the Venezuelan native packs a punch in his swing, and he cranks that level up to another level in postseason play.

Houston has been the beneficiary of numerous clutch home runs by Altuve in the fall. Those highlights include Altuve’s walk-off against Aroldis Chapman and the Yankees in 2019 to clinch the AL pennant and send the Astros to the World Series.

Most home runs in MLB postseason history

Altuve is close to placing first on the all-time postseason home runs list, but he isn’t No. 1 yet.

That honor still belongs to former MLB star outfielder Manny Ramirez. The two-time World Series champion played in 11 playoffs, spanning across his time in Cleveland, Boston and Los Angeles. He won the 2004 and 2007 World Series with the Red Sox, and he was named 2004 World Series MVP after ripping two home runs and 11 RBIs to help Boston reverse the curse.

In total, Ramirez recorded 29 home runs in his playoff career, the most among any batter. Altuve is two away from tying the record at 27, and if he hits three in 2-24, he’ll be the new leader.

Outside of Ramirez and Altuve, the only batters with at least 20 postseason dingers to their name are former Yankees legends Bernie Williams (22) and Derek Jeter (20), as well as current Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber.

Altuve isn’t the only Astro that can move up the all-time list. Alex Bregman is currently tied for sixth in playoff home runs with 19. One more and he’d be the sixth player to smack 20 postseason long balls.
