Khyree Jackson, along with two of his high school teammates from Maryland, were killed on Saturday morning in a car crash.
Jackson, taken by the Minnesota Vikings in this spring’s NFL draft, was just weeks away from his first training camp in the league. Also killed in the crash were Isaiah Hazel, 23, and Anthony Lytton Jr., 24.
All three attended Wise High School (Upper Marlboro, Maryland) where he was a three-star recruit according to Rivals.
After attending junior college, he would become a four-star junior college prospect who went on to play for Alabama and then Oregon. Jackson was a fourth-round pick of the Vikings this spring in the NFL draft.
According to NBC 4 in Washington, D.C., the police “believe speed and alcohol may have been factors but no charges have been filed.”
The investigation is ongoing with the Prince George’s County State Attorney’s Office providing an update to the NBC affiliate:
“We only have initial reports which do not include the BAC (blood alcohol concentration) which has to be developed from the medical records in this case. We have not yet received those yet. There is a need for more information about what exactly happened to collect sufficient evidence. An early evidentiary review has been scheduled for this week,” a statement from the office said in part.”
Oregon will hold a vigil for Jackson on July 10.
