But can Benzema overtake Ronaldo and claim the top scorer title?

The French striker, now 37, followed Ronaldo to the Middle East in 2023. Since joining Al-Ittihad, Benzema has scored 33 goals in 52 matches, with 15 coming in the league this season.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo, now 40, continues his incredible form at Al-Nassr and currently leads the scoring charts with 16 goals.

What Karim Benzema said on Golden Boot race with Cristiano Ronaldo?

Despite the race for the Golden Boot, Benzema insists he is not obsessed with scoring goals.

Speaking to the Saudi Pro League’s official website, he said, “I’m not the guy who thinks only about scoring goals. It’s great to be in the race with Cristiano, but for me, the most important thing is winning games. If I can score and help my team, I’m happy.”

When asked whether he prefers scoring or assisting, Benzema added, “I love football for both goals and assists. Helping my team is the most important thing to me. So, I’m happy.”

Al-Ittihad currently sits at the top of the league after 20 matches, four points ahead of Al-Hilal and eight clear of Al-Nassr. Meanwhile, Ronaldo has struggled to add major silverware to his collection since arriving in Saudi Arabia.

With the season heating up, the battle between Benzema and Ronaldo is far from over.

Will the Frenchman surpass his former teammate, or will Ronaldo once again prove why he is one of the greatest goal scorers in football history?
