The Pittsburgh Penguins returned home to take on the San Jose Sharks in their last game before the All-Star break. San Jose jumped out to a 1-0 lead early into the first period of play but the Penguins would battle back getting a pair of goals from Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby. With his assist on Malkin’s power-play goal, Sidney Crosby passed Stan Mikita for sole possession of 15th place on the NHL’s all-time scoring list. San Jose would later even up the score, 2-2, before the end of the period. The scoring continued in the second, as the Sharks regained the lead just 5 minutes in. Ryan Poehling would answer back for Pittsburgh on the shorthanded effort for his 5th goal of the season but the Sharks were able to find the back of the net again, giving them a 4-3 lead heading into intermission. The Penguins fought back in the third as Evgeni Malkin scored his 2nd goal in the contest but their effort wouldn’t be enough as San Jose walked away with a 6-4 victory.
