The Portland Timbers have been knocked out of the MLS Cup playoffs in the first round, falling to FC Dallas in a penalty shootout. The match ended 1-1 after FC Dallas forward Ricardo Pepi equalized in second-half stoppage time. Portland goal scorer Jorge Villafana would later go on to miss the decisive penalty in the third-longest penalty shootout in MLS history. FC Dallas move on to the Western Conference semifinals and will face the winner of Seattle Sounders vs. LAFC.
