Colorado Rapids complete deal for Seattle midfielder Josh Atencio

Western Conference outfit Colorado Rapids continue their retooling program after completing their move for Seattle Sounders midfielder Josh Atencio.

Per a previous announcement from insider Tom Bogert that has been officially announced by the club, Atencio arrives at DSG Park ahead of the 2025 MLS season in a move that may be a shock to some.

Atencio will net Seattle a cool $1.3m in general allocation money as well as add-ons down the line, while still occupying a U-22 initiative spot for Colorado.

The 23-year-old was a bright spark in the Sounders midfield while making 111 appearances for the club, and his progress on the pitch was previously rewarded with a debut for the United States back in January of 2024 during a friendly against European minnows Slovenia.

Bogert detailed the moving pieces surrounding Atencio’s deal, with Colorado having funded his acquisition after the Rapids generated $725k GAM as well as a pair of first-round MLS SuperDraft picks after shedding four international spots during the off-season.
