Breeders’ Cup World Championships Preview

For 2024, the Breeders’ Cup World Championships return to Del Mar in Arcadia, California. Pre-entries will close on Monday October 21 for all the races and final entries will close on Monday October 28 when post positions will be drawn in the paddock at Del Mar. Below are links to contenders for each race along with lots of other information.

The 41st Breeders’ Cup will have a total of 14 Championship races (all Grade 1) spread over two days of racing with $31 million in purse money on the line. Friday November 1st is billed as “Future Stars Friday” featuring all 5 Championship races for juveniles on the same card, starting with the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G1) and highlighted by the $2 million FanDuel Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1). Saturday November 2nd will have nine Grade 1 races for older horses headlined by the $6 million Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) at 1 1/4 miles. Once again, the Classic will not be the finale, with the Filly and Mare Turf, Filly and Mare Sprint, Mile, and Sprint running after the Classic. The Championships are being held at Del Mar for the third time, having hosted in 2017 and 2021 previously.

The Breeders’ Cup will be televised on NBC, Peacock USA Network, and FanDuel TV with the schedule shown below. All times are Eastern.
     Friday, November 1, 4:00-8:00pm – Future Stars Friday on USA Network/Peacock/FanDuel TV
     Friday, November 1, 8:00-9:00pm – Future Stars Friday on Peacock/FanDuel TV
     Saturday, November 2, 11:00pm-3:30pm – Championship Saturday on USA Network/Peacock/FanDuel TV
     Saturday, November 2, 3:30pm-5:30pm – Championship Saturday NBC/Peacock/FanDuel TV
     Saturday, November 2, 5:30pm-6:30pm – Championship Saturday (Classic) on NBC/Peacock
     Saturday, November 2, 6:30pm-8:00pm – Championship Saturday on USA Network/Peacock/FanDuel TV
     Saturday, November 2, 8:00pm-9:00pm – Championship Saturday on Peacock/FanDuel TV

Below is the list of races with conditions, purses, and post times for both days. The post times and race order will be finalized on Monday October 21. Click the race names to get links for info specific to that race including a list of the contenders with a link to a profile for each horse with lots more info. Jockey assignments are not finalized and are based on the regular or most recent riders.
