A star-studded Belgium are still hoping to win their first World Cup trophy in Qatar, and they got off to a winning start although the performance was anything but promising.
A Thibaut Courtois penalty-kick save and a Michy Batshuayi goal helped Belgium beat Canada in their opener, but the Red Devils were on their heels for the entire match. Even Belgium manager Roberto Martinez admitted that the Canadians were the better side.
However, the three points put Belgium in strong position to advance with matches against Morocco and Croatia coming up next.
Belgium can mathematically wrap up a spot in the Round of 16 with a victory over Morocco on the second matchday, but fans will not be so optimistic based on what was seen in the opener.

Belgium 2022 World Cup schedule
After defeating Canada 1-0, Belgium will next face Morocco on Sunday, Nov. 27.
The Moroccans stifled Croatia in a 0-0 opening match deadlock, and with a little bit of luck might have walked away with all three points.
While a win would clinch a spot in the Round of 16 for Belgium, a loss would mean sweating it out on the final matchday against 2018 World Cup finalists Croatia, who could be desperate for points themselves.
An opponent from Group E would then await in the Round of 16, should Belgium qualify, with the likes of Spain, Germany, or Japan potentially looming.
Belgium faced Japan in the Round of 16 at the 2018 FIFA World Cup and found themselves down 2-0 in the second half, only to storm back for a 3-2 victory as they advanced to the semifinals of that tournament.
