Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty on Tuesday on all charges he faced in connection with the May 2020 death of George Floyd.

A jury of six white, four Black and two multi-racial jurors found Chauvin guilty of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter after 10 hours of deliberation over two days. Chauvin, 45, faces a maximum sentence of 40 years for the second-degree unintentional murder conviction, 25 years for the third-degree murder conviction and 10 years for second-degree manslaughter.

Video showed Chauvin kneeling on Floyd’s neck for nine minutes and 29 seconds, creating a nationwide call for justice in the latter’s death. The same was true for the sports world. Floyd’s death also contributed to a flood of demonstrations and marches calling for an end to systemic racism and racial injustice.
