Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo hit his first home run in the minors this season as he rehabs from a fractured arm down in Double-A.
Rizzo, 35, went 2-for-2 while playing four innings at first base on Tuesday night for Somerset. His first-inning shot gave the Patriots a 1-0 lead. Tuesday was Rizzo’s third game playing with Somerset and he’s now 2-for-6 with the home run and two walks.
Also in Somerset, Jon Berti continued his rehab assignment starting at third base. He finished 0-for-3 with a strikeout in Tuesday’s game and is now 2-for-8 with a home run in his three games with the Patriots.
Ian Hamilton pitched a perfect 1.1 innings (12 pitches, 10 strikes) while striking out three batters in his latest appearance in Double-A. Tuesday was Hamilton’s second rehab appearance after pitching a perfect inning back on Aug. 24 with three strikeouts.
Up with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Yankees prospect Jasson Dominguez had himself another productive day.
In the RailRiders’ 9-7 win over Rochester, Dominguez went 2-for-5 with a triple and scored a run. Both of Dominguez’s hits — the other a single — had exit velocities of 110 mph. After Tuesday’s performance, Dominguez is now slashing .308/.361/.466 with four home runs and 17 RBI in 33 games in Triple-A.
Oswald Peraza, after a cup of coffee in the majors last weekend, went 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs to raise his average to .249 on the season.
