The former UFC interim heavyweight champion will be part of the traditional Olympic flame relay that goes through the host nation in the lead-up to the opening ceremony and Gane will be part of that historic event. The French fighter proudly revealed the news on his Instagram.

“Proud to carry the flame,” said Gane in his native tongue of French. “Hoping to see MMA as an Olympic event one day.

“Meet on June 4 at La Roche-sur-Yon”

The relay is currently underway and started on Thursday, May 9 in Marseille, France. The relay will spend the next eleven weeks traveling through France as nearly 10,000 individuals will serve as torchbearers this year. Gane will take his position during the 24th stage of the relay, which goes from the Deux-Sèvres region to Les Sables-d’Olonne.

The relay will conclude on July 26, which will be the start of the Olympic Games.

Gane last competed in September when he scored a second-round TKO over Serghei Spivac. He is targeting a fight with current interim champion Tom Aspinall.
