The 2022 NFL Draft was a very interesting draft indeed, look at the NFL odds. Nine trades were made on the first day of the draft.   In addition, a record-setting nine teams had more than one first-round pick in this year’s draft. Therefore, a lot of teams were in a good position to have a real solid draft. Here are the five teams who excelled more than any other team in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens went into the 2022 NFL Draft with a slew of draft picks. It is safe to say that they exceeded expectations.

Ravens GM Eric Dacosta’s strategy of picking the best player of the draft has worked wonders.

Kyle Hamilton was a major steal for the Ravens at #14 given that he was the fourth best prospect of the draft according to Mel Kiper.

The Ravens made great use of the pick that it got in the trade for Marquise Brown in drafting Tyler Lindenbaum from Iowa to solidify the offensive line. By drafting Ojabo in the second round, the Ravens essentially drafted three 1st round picks.

Ojabo would have surely been a top-10 pick had it not been for his Pro Day injury weeks back.

In addition, the Ravens added a potential run stopper in Travis Jones. With his superior athletic ability, Jones is poised to make an impact immediately.

The Ravens added two TEs in Charlie Kolar and Isaiah Likely so that Lamar Jackson can have more big targets to throw to. They added to their offensive line depth by drafting Daniel Faalele in Round 4.

They also managed to add much-needed depth to the CB and RB positions.

Kansas City Chiefs

After parting ways with Tyreek Hill, the Chiefs had four additional draft picks for the 2022 draft. The Chiefs took care of their most pressing needs right away with their top three picks. (cornerback, defensive end, and wide receiver.

By drafting CB Trent McDuffie, the Chiefs drafted a CB that has been compared to Pro Bowler Jaire Alexander. Then they picked up edge rusher George Karlaftis. He has been compared to Ryan Kerrigan by draft experts.

If that wasn’t enough, the Chiefs drafted Skyy Moore. Skyy Moore has the big play potential that the Chiefs needed to fill the void left by Tyreek Hill. Mahomes will enjoy throwing to this target.

CB Joshua Williams of Fayetteville State should not be slept on. He is a great cover guy that’s length could serve as an advantage.

On top of that, the Chiefs upgraded their physicality on defense significantly with their picks of S Bryan Cook and Leo Chanel. Don’t be surprised if both of these guys become immediate contributors.

New York Jets

The Jets were badly in need of a good draft. GM Joe Douglas deserves tremendous props for drafting three potential cornerstone players to Gang Green.

Sauce Gardner provides some character and identity that the Jets secondary badly needs. The Jets may have drafted a shutdown corner. Zach Wilson may have a premier weapon in Garrett Wilson. Garrett Wilson has drawn comparisons to the likes of Stefon Diggs, Odell Beckham Jr and Robert Woods.

At #26, they drafted a potential alpha dog in DE Jermaine Johnson. Johnson was considered a top 9 prospect according to NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah.

After all the trade maneuvering, the Jets had 4 draft picks after the 1st round. It was very important that they struck gold early. They did.

Philadelphia Eagles

Extra bonus points go to GM Roseman for pulling the A.J Brown trade on draft night. On top, his first three draft picks were top tier. He will help to draw defenders from  2021 first-round pick Devonta Smith and he is a big target for Jalen Hurts.

With their first pick, the Eagles got ahead of the Ravens and snatched Jordan Davis. A potential mentor-mentee relationship with Fletcher Cox should scare opposing offensive lines. Eagles C Jason Kelce believes that 2nd round draft pick Cam Jurgens could be his potential replacement.

It’s quite possible the Eagles got the steal of the draft in Nakobe Dean at #83

Injuries led to him dropping in the draft. However, Dean was the heart and soul of the Georgia Bulldogs’ defense on the way to a national title. He will have an immediate impact on the Eagle’s defense.

Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions filled a great need at tackle by getting Aidan Hutchinson at #2. After this sure-fire pick, the Lions put their chips on the table and traded #32,#34, and #66 to move up and get dynamic WR Jameson Williams from Alabama.

In addition, the Lions drafted a potential disruptor between the gaps as well as on the edge in Joshua Paschal. Paschal will be a good fit for the type of team that Campbell is trying to fit.

In terms of safeties in the draft that could function in a single high safety defense, there are few safeties that are as good as Kerby Joseph.

It is interesting that most of the top performers in the NFL draft were all involved in trades either before or on draft night. The Ravens and Chiefs were a cut everyone else due to the fact that they took full advantage of the extra picks that they gained through trades. Both teams drafted several players that will pay dividends right away.
