Huge change at Arsenal
The rebuild. This is the task set for Mikel Arteta, Edu and Richard Garlick at the start of the 2021 summer window. After back-to-back 8th place finishes and no European football next season, the Gunners must look to refresh their squad.
Arteta could and arguably should have gone last season. You would be hard pressed to find another club of the same global stature as Arsenal who wouldn’t have cut the chord.
Yet the Spaniard remains and the owners, Stan and Josh Kroenke, have told of ‘big plans’ to invest in the future. Whether that future is now is another question and sure to be revealed in the coming weeks and months. Yet, big change is a likely outcome despite the apprehension of the words of a figurehead who is near-impossible to trust.

Some outlets, such as football.london, report that there is an expectation for there to be a massive amount of change in the playing staff at the club this summer.
football.london understands that the north London club are set for a huge squad overhaul this summer, with numerous players expected to leave and arrive at the Emirates.
Arsenal have already seen three loan players in Dani Ceballos, Martin Odegaard and Mat Ryan leave. All 3 played varying roles in Arteta’s squad both integral and support. David Luiz also left at the expiration of his contract. All these players will need to be replaced.
The futures of Matteo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira, Granit Xhaka, Eddie Nketiah, Reiss Nelson, Joe Willock, Bernd Leno, Willian, Dinos Mavropanos, Hector Bellerin, Alexandre Lacazette, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Sead Kolasinac are all uncertain.

All the aforementioned players have been linked with moves away from the club.
Mikel Arteta has a young core of players he wants to help flourish. Kieran Tierney, Gabriel Magalhaes, Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith-Rowe, Gabriel Martinelli and William Saliba are all expected to continue their development at the club.
Folarin Balogun signed a new deal at the club and is expected to fight for a first team place. Whilst young players such as Miguel Azeez, Catalin Cirjan and Charlie Patino are gaining notoriety in the youth team.
Arsenal’s long list of targets
All of this before even considering the possible incomings. Arsenal attract plenty of media attention and links to a plethora of players during the window and this year is no different.
A number of players in differing areas of the pitch have been touted as possible targets for Arsenal.
In midfield, Yves Bissouma, Guido Rodriguez, Ruben Neves and most recently Sambi Lokonga, who was reportedly bid for unsuccessfully by Arsenal, have all been tipped with a move. The latter could be a cheaper option to the previous trio however with so little depth, do not be surprised to see Arsenal target two signings in this area.

At right-back, Zeki Celik, Max Aarons, Tyler Adams (who can also play in midfield) and Emerson. Bellerin’s departure holds the key to this area. The Spaniard’s likely sale will probably pay the majority if not the entire price of his replacement, especially if Arsenal are smart about who they go for.
At striker, Alexander Isak, Odsonne Edouard and Roman Yaremchuk. The likelihood is that this is the least of Arsenal’s concerns. With Aubameyang and Lacazette still at the club, Nketiah, Balogun and Martinelli there also, a lot would need to change to see Arsenal pursue a striking option.
At goalkeeper, Mat Ryan and Andre Onana have been linked. In attacking midfield, Martin Odegaard, Hakan Calhanoglu, Nabil Fekir, Rodrigo De Paul and Emi Buendia who has now left for Aston Villa. With Odegaard looking likely to stay at Real Madrid, Arsenal will move for another option to provide competition for the injury prone Smith-Rowe.
Finally, and rather surprisingly considering the numbers in the position, at centre half, Edmond Tapsoba, Jules Koundé and most recently Ben White have been linked with a move. An interesting one however, when looking at Arsenal’s top 6 competitors, quality throughout this position sets them apart and the Gunners do need to catch up.

With so many positions being linked with a move, how is it possible to tell what is the clubs priority. In all honesty, it is simply not. There are no indications that links to specific players in the market tell us who the Gunners are prioritising.
With recent links to White and Lokonga, this does not mean the centre-half or central midfield positions are being prioritised over other areas. Some deals simply happen at different times during the window. Some players the club could buy may not be available right now due to tournament responsibilities or the fact that clubs are yet to buy players to allow others to leave.
What is clear is that Arsenal are intent on getting plenty of business done and this is widely accepted. Yet it is no guarantee of a busy window, simply a hint that it could be something to expect. Should Arsenal fail in ‘the rebuild’ this summer, the Arsenal supporters are sure to let them know.
