Texas added a new headliner to its 2022 class with the addition of four-star wide receiver Brenen Thompson. The four-star wideout committed Wednesday to the Longhorns live on CBS Sports HQ, choosing them over Oklahoma State and Texas A&M.

Among the top athletes in the state of Texas, Thompson led Spearman High School to an 11-2 record in 2020. He also won the Class 3A 200-meter state championship with a 21.27-second time and earned second with a 10.4 100-meter run. 247Sports Composite ranks him as the No. 11 receiver and No. 87 player in the nation.

Listed at just 5-foot-10 and 165 pounds, Thompson should thrive once given the opportunity to grow in a collegiate strength and conditioning program. 247Sports Midlands Region Recruiting Analyst Gabe Brooks had this scouting report on Thompson:

Owns varied positional experience on both sides of the ball and in the return game. Comfortable catching the ball out of the backfield and in downfield scenarios…displays great run-after-catch ability. Shows some slippery functional strength above his weight in those RAC opportunities. Athleticism and ball skills to play receiver, all-purpose back or cornerback at the Power Five level.

Thompson becomes the highest-rated commitment in Texas’ 2022 recruiting class and launches the Longhorns to the nation’s No. 2 overall class with 22 commitments. Fifteen of the 22 players are rated blue-chip recruits.
