Pennsylvania legalized sports betting in 2017, with the first retail sportsbook opening in November 2018. However, legal online sports betting didn’t launch in the Keystone State until May 2019, allowing Pennsylvanians to bet on their favorite teams on their computers and mobile phones.

How do I bet on sports in Pennsylvania?

Pennsylvanians over the age of 21 can make online, mobile, and retail wagers, but all legal sports bets have to be made within state lines.

Mobile sportsbooks utilize geolocation to track your phone’s internal GPS chip. When betting online, users are prompted to download a plugin to make legalized bets. If making retail wagers, head to a Pennsylvania casino or racetrack to make your bets in person.

Can I bet on college sports in Pennsylvania?

Residents can bet on Division 1 collegiate sports in Pennsylvania; however, they can’t bet on individual player props, such as “Will player “x” score more than 23.5 points,” during the college basketball and football seasons. The Division 1 schools that bettors can place a wager on are Saint Joseph’s, University of Pennsylvania, La Salle, Temple, University of Pittsburgh, Penn State, Drexel, Bucknell, Duquesne, Lehigh, Lafayette, Robert Morris, and Saint Francis.

Along with individual game bets, bettors can place futures bets on their favorite collegiate teams and players. For example, residents can bet on if Penn State will win the Big Ten or the National Championship in football. Of course, futures betting is not just subject to schools in Pennsylvania, as all available teams and players across the country can be wagered on.

Where can I bet on sports in Pennsylvania?

As of right now, 12 legal sportsbooks operate in the state of Pennsylvania. However, only nine sportsbooks have affiliations with casinos across the state. Additionally, several sportsbooks have partnerships with Pennsylvania professional sports teams.
