Naomi Osaka has no time for people who doubt her ability to continue her tennis career as a new mom. On Friday, the four-time Grand Slam singles champion applauded people who expressed perceived “concerns” about her future in tennis after she announced her pregnancy in January.

“Btw for people suddenly interested in my career – there are plenty of male athletes with kids who are significantly less fit, maybe you could look after them,” she tweeted. “Thanks for your concern, I might want to redirect it to someone who needs it. She added: “We’re not trying to make it a male and female thing, but let’s be [real].”

Osaka announced her pregnancy by posting an ultrasound photo on social media. She is expecting her first child with her boyfriend, rapper Corda. “Can’t wait to get back on the court but here’s a little life update for 2023,” she captioned the statement post.

“Those few months away from the sport really gave me a new love and appreciation for the game I’ve dedicated my life to,” she wrote before sharing her plans to play at the 2024 Australian Open. Osaka told “Today” in an article published Thursday , that she is excited for her child to watch tennis one day, and seemed to hint that her child is expected relatively soon.

“The thing I’m most excited about is being able to have a kid in the stands watching me play tennis and being able to say, ‘Hey, that’s my mom on the court,’” she said. “It really feels like a dream to think of my own child in the stands watching me, and I’m so excited that it’s coming to me in the not-so-distant future.” Osaka withdrew from the Australian Open in January, days before announcing her pregnancy.

The tournament’s official Twitter account announced the withdrawal at the time, but did not give a reason. Naomi Osaka has had a busy week on social media, promoting a tasty pair of NikeCourt Air Zoom GP Turbos – the former world number one dubbed the ‘Snack Packs’ – and wowing critics with the credibility of her post-baby comeback. “Btw for people suddenly interested in my career,” she wrote on Friday.

“There are a lot of male athletes with children who are significantly less fit, maybe you should look after them instead. Thanks for the concern, I might want to forward this to someone who needs it.” “So excited to see the summer 23 NO x Nike drop,” she wrote on Twitter, adding a few emoticons for emphasis. “that’s very good.”
