Orlando Magic coach Steve Clifford has tested positive for COVID-19, but he says he’s hoping it’s a false positive.
Clifford spoke to the media on Saturday about his diagnosis, saying he has no symptoms according to Josh Robbins of The Athletic. Clifford reportedly tested positive on Thursday, tested negative twice on Friday and tested positive again on Saturday.
The situation leaves Clifford likely unable to coach his team against the Indiana Pacers on Sunday:
Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Clifford has been vaccinated and could coach Sunday if he tests negative twice more before tip-off and receives league clearance.
In Clifford’s absence, assistant coach Tyrone Corbin is set to fill in as acting head coach. Corbin coached the Utah Jazz for four seasons in 2011-14, and has also served as interim head coach for the Sacramento Kings.
