From the first pop of champagne bottles in Atlanta to the shower of confetti that met them at Target Center, the 2011 Minnesota Lynx pounced on its prey of cynics and one-liners suggesting the team, the WNBA, and Minnesota professional sports teams in general would never amount to anything.

In its 13th season of operation, the Lynx brought home the WNBA title by sweeping the Atlanta Dream 3 games to none, also bringing the Twin Cities its first professional sports title since 1991, when the Minnesota Twins defeated the Atlanta Braves in that year’s World Series. Before the 2011 season, the Lynx had made the playoffs just twice and had never advanced beyond the first round.
