Former Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord has been having a strong season at Syracuse, but on Friday the Orange suffered their first loss of the season.
In the Orange’s 26-24 home loss to Stanford, the former Buckeye completed 27 of 42 passes for 339 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. One of his interceptions was returned 71 yards for a touchdown.
McCord added a 19-yard rushing touchdown.
In Syracuse’s season-opening win against Ohio, McCord completed 27 of 39 pass attempts for 354 passing yards and four touchdowns.
In the Orange’s 31-28 home win against No. 23 Georgia Tech two weeks ago, the former Ohio State quarterback posted a career-high 381 passing yards, completing 32 of 46 passes and four touchdowns.
“Kyle’s a good football player,” Syracuse coach Fran Brown said after the win over Ohio. “You’ve seen it right there. I should send Ryan Day a bottle of champagne for allowing us to get him. It’s really cool.”
How did Kyle McCord do at Ohio State?
In three seasons with Ohio State, McCord had 3,776 passing yards, 27 touchdowns and 8 interceptions, completing 66.5% of his 406 pass attempts.
In 2023, as Ohio State’s starting quarterback, McCord had 3,170 passing yards, 24 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. He led the Buckeyes to an 11-1 record, falling to Michigan 30-24 in the final game of the regular season.
