2022 Kentucky Derby Future Wager

Pool Five of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager opens for betting at noon ET on Thursday April 7th and closes at 4:30pm ET on Saturday April 9th. (postponed from March 31-April 2) Epicenter is the 5-1 morning line favorite off his wins in the Risen Star (G2) and Louisiana Derby (G2) at Fair Grounds. Kentucky Jockey Club (G2) winner Smile Happy is the 6-1 second choice off his second place finish in the Risen Star (G2), and will run in the Blue Grass Stakes (G1). Forbidden Kingdom, Messier, and White Abarrio are all listed as 8-1 co-third choices. There are four new horses in Pool 5. Note that any horses currently trained by Bob Baffert are excluded and cannot earn points toward entering the Derby. If they change trainers, then they can start earning points and be included in later pools. Robert B. Lewis Stakes (G3) winner Messier was transferred to the barn of Tim Yakteen and thus is included here; he will run in the Santa Anita Derby (G1).
The Kentucky Derby Future Wager is a two-dollar minimum bet to win only with no refunds if your horse doesn’t start in the race with both win and exacta wagering available. Pool 1 was November 27-29, Pool 2 was January 21-23, Pool 3 was February 11-13. Pool 4 was March 11-13. The 148th running of the Kentucky Derby is currently scheduled for Saturday, May 7.
