Harry Kane will return to Tottenham Hotspur with Bayern Munich for a pre-season friendly in August later this year.

Kane, who is Spurs’ all-time record goalscorer, left north London for the Bundesliga giants in last summer’s transfer window. He bagged 280 goals in 435 appearances for departing for Bavaria for an initial £86.4m plus add-ons.

Bayern will visit Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday 10 August as part of the Visit Malta Cup. Eric Dier, who also plays for the Munich side following his January switch, will also return to his former club.

England captain Kane, who did not feature in either of the Three Lions’ March friendlies against Brazil and Belgium due to injury, has enjoyed a record-breaking start to life at Bayern but faces the prospect of another trophy-less season.

Bayern are ten points behind Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen, with their last remaining hope of silverware being the Champions League where they face Kane’s old north London rivals Arsenal in the quarter-finals.

Tottenham, meanwhile, are fifth in the Premier League in their first season without their former striker since 2008/09, with a return to the Champions League on the cards thanks to the expansion of UEFA’s flagship competition for 2024/25.

Spurs and Bayern last met competitively in the Champions League in 2019/20. Mauricio Pochettino’s side were thrashed 7-2 at home before the return fixture in Germany, where the Argentine’s replacement Jose Mourinho oversaw a 3-1 defeat. Bayern would go on to win the tournament after beating Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in Lisbon.

The two teams also duked it out in the 1983/84 UEFA Cup. Tottenham emerged 2-1 victors on aggregate in the third round and went on to beat Austria Memphis and Hajduk Split before triumphing over Anderlecht on penalties after the two-legged final finished all square at 2-2.
