Why Notre Dame can cover

Quarterback Ian Book has graduated, but the Fighting Irish still have hope. Former Wisconsin quarterback Jack Coan has transferred to Notre Dame and can keep the offense flying high. Coan completed nearly 70 percent of his passes with the Badgers in 2019. Adding his accuracy to last year’s 12th-ranked scoring offense could be paramount, especially since Florida State forked up 36 points per game last season.

In addition, Notre Dame has won each of its last five games on the road. The Fighting Irish are also 4-1 against the spread in their last five games played in September.

Why Florida State can cover

Florida State wasn’t great last year. However, it has improved its roster since the 2020 season. Former UCF star McKenzie Milton is an option be under center for the Seminoles in their season opener, though Jordan Travis is in the mix as well.

Milton threw for 25 touchdowns with just six interceptions in 2018 and has rushed for at least eight touchdowns in each of his last two collegiate seasons. Florida State has to get a lot better on defense, but Milton gives them a fighting chance in the scoring department.
