Farewell Vanessa!

Some of you may have noticed that our long time photographer and friend Vanessa Ng has been absent since October. Sadly, she had a massive stroke in late October and had been hospitalized since then in ICU. She was left unable to talk, on a ventilator, and paralyzed on her right side. We were able to visit her in January and she had a lot of trouble communicating, both understanding us and trying to be understood. She remained in this relative limbo for all this time until this week. She was finally transferred out to a rehab hospital in hopes they could help her improve, but her first night there she had another stroke and passed away. There is no word yet from her family as to when or where a service will be held, but I will update here when I know.

She traveled the world shooting races in the US, Canada, Hong Kong, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, and France. She loved travel and animals, so frequently visited zoos and wildlife preserves wherever she went. She often went to the San Diego Safari Park and had a zoo membership so she could go to zoos everywhere. She loved horses and horse racing, with a special fondness for the horses trained by Bob Baffert.

We will miss her and hope she is in a better place now. Here are a few photos of her doing what she enjoyed the most. If you wish to post condolences, her Facebook page is here.

A nice remembrance from her friend and coworker Jessica Withers.
