Monterrey goalkeeper Esteban Andrada was “surprised” that injured Tigres shot-stopper Nahuel Guzman used a laser pointer to try and distract him during the 3-3 draw in the Clasico Regio Saturday night.
As if the game itself wasn’t dramatic and chaotic enough, Guzman decided to add a little more fire to the flame by attempting to put off Andrada with a laser pointer. This isn’t the first time this has happened in soccer and it certainly won’t be the last.
Guzman — who’s still recovering from a knee injury suffered back in March — was in one of the sky boxes at the Estadio BBVA but still had an effect on the game. Guzman’s actions were caught on camera and began to circulate on social media hours after the game.
“I was surprised, we are professional colleagues, the truth is that if you like to provoke, go for it. The truth is that later they told me that it was him, it was the reaction I had after the game and nothing more,” Andrada said to a reporter while in his car.
After the draw, Andrada posted a fiery message to his Instagram story and tagged Guzman but quickly deleted it. Guzman has since issued a public apology online to try to make amends with Andrada.
“As I already did privately and in coherence with the values of the Institution that I represent, I want to take advantage of the importance of Social Networks to publicly offer my apologies to Esteban for the event that occurred last night during first half of the Clasico Regio,” the 38-year-old said in a post on X.
Liga MX is said to be investigating the situation with Guzman, who’s amassed over 450 appearances for Tigres since joining in July 2014 from Newell’s Old Boys.
