Warren Zaire-Emery’s second-half equaliser ensured Kylian Mbappe and his Paris St-Germain team-mates will play in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 in February 2024 courtesy of a 1-1 draw at Group F leaders Borussia Dortmund.

After a breathless first half when Niklas Sule produced a brilliant clearance to keep Mbappe’s finish off the line, Karim Adeyemi slotted in to give BVB the lead from Niclas Fullkrug’s pass after PSG lost possession in a dangerous area.

Mbappe’s menacing run down the left was instrumental in Zaire-Emery’s leveller, the academy product finding space inside the box to fire in a crucial finish as Newcastle United spurned the chance to seize second place with a 2-1 home defeat to Milan.

PSG’s troubles deepen!

49 mins: Dortmund 0-0 PSG

First chance of the half for PSG. Kylian Mbappe works the ball well in a dangerous area on the left, contained by some fine Dortmund defending.

The ball drops for Lee Kang-in in a central position on the edge of the penalty area, and Gregor Kobel holds his low drive.

47 mins: Dortmund 0-0 PSG

No let-up in these teams’ willingness to shoot. Julian Brandt unleashes a fierce drive from a considerable distance out on the right. Gianluigi Donnarumma palms the effort away.

46 mins: Dortmund 0-0 PSG

Kylian Mbappe clasps his hands to his lips as the teams re-emerge. What a second half this promises to be.

Halftime: Dortmund 0-0 PSG

Fifteen shots apiece, with three of the five for Borussia Dortmund, but a breathless first half comes to a close goalless.

Bradley Barcola’s shot that hit a post and Niklas Sule’s block to stop Kylian Mbappe’s shot from going in were the stand-out moments. As it is, Paris are on course to finish third.

Tremendous chance for Mats Hummels! The Dortmund man has a free header in front of goal but sends it wide.

43 mins: Dortmund 0-0 PSG

32 mins: Dortmund 0-0 PSG

Karim Adeyemi fluffs his lines after Gianluigi Donnarumma cannot hold a Salih Ozcan shot, sending the rebound over the target from close range.

29 mins: Dortmund 0-0 PSG

That Dortmund run of not concededing in their last four home matches in this competition has come perilously close to ending here. It’s been a thriller.

26 mins: Dortmund 0-0 PSG

Marco Reus charges towards goal and thumps in a shot. Gianluigi Donnarumma is equal to it. Alert save!

23 mins: Dortmund 0-0 PSG

The procession of excellent chances continues. This time Kolo Muani breaks free inside the penalty area on the left and pokes a finish past Gregor Kubel – and just wide of the far post.

There have been enough opportunities for this game to have contained five goals already.

20 mins: Dortmund 0-0 PSG

Bradley Barcola hits the woodwork! The attacker curls a shot towards goal from the left, seeing it beat Gianluigi Donnarumma but not the far post!

14 mins: Dortmund 0-0 PSG

Dortmund should be ahead! Marius Wolf has a clear sight of goal from inside the penalty area in space, arrowing a powerful low shot wide.

12 mins: Dortmund 0-0 PSG

Marco Reus sends in a first-time volley after some slick play from Dortmund. Gianluigi Donnarumma is equal to it, parrying the effort away at his right-hand post.

9 mins: Dortmund 0-0 PSG

3 mins: Dortmund 0-0 PSG

Julian Brant swings a freekick into the penalty area from a promising spot on the right. The delivery evades everyone and drops behind.

1 mins: Dortmund 0-0 PSG

End-to-end stuff in the first minute or so: PSG attack near the corner flag on the left, then Dortmund attempt to go forward at the opposite end.

20 mins to kickoff: A defeat or draw for Paris would see them without a win in three successive UEFA Champions League group stage matches for the first time since the 2004/05 season. Not a feat they want to match.

40 mins to kickoff: Paris have not failed to score in their last 49 UEFA Champions League group stage matches, last drawing a blank in a 1-0 defeat at Real Madrid in November 2015. Not a bad record.

2 hours to kickoff: Hello and welcome to The Sporting News’ live coverage of today’s UEFA Champions League group-stage finale between Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain.

While the hosts are already through to the knockout stage and are guaranteed to win the group if they avoid defeat, the picture is rather more complicated for the Ligue 1 giants, who could finish anywhere between top and third, depending on how they fare and what happens in Newcastle United’s game at home to AC Milan.

We’ll have build-up, lineups and minute-by-minute coverage coming up.

Borussia Dortmund vs PSG lineups

Despite already booking their place in the Round of 16, Edin Terzic wanted to sign off the group stages with a strong performance, but he was missing some key names since Dortmund’s 3-1 win in Milan last month.

Julian Ryerson, Sebastien Haller and Youssoufa Moukoko were all out, but exciting England U21 international Jamie Bynoe-Gittens started.

Borussia Dortmund (4-3-3): Kobel (GK) – Wolf, Sule, Hummels, Bensebaini – Brandt, Salih Ozcan, Reus – Adeyemi, Fullkrug, Bynoe-Gittens.

Enrique’s main injury concern was the absence of Fabian Ruiz due to a shoulder injury. However, Goncalo Ramos and Ousmane Dembele were ready to return after being rested for the weekend Ligue 1 win over Nantes, alongside talisman Kylian Mbappe.

PSG (4-2-2-2): Donnarumma (GK) – Hakimi, Marquinhos, Skriniar, Hernandez – Zaire-Emery, Vitinha – Kang-in Lee, Barcola – Kolo Muani, Mbappe
