Max Scherzer is an intense pitcher, and he showed that on Saturday night when he was not pleased with something a Mets bat boy did.
As he was about to throw his first pitch in the top of the fifth inning against the Braves, the bat boy ran behind home plate to grab some equipment off the Mets’ on-deck circle. He seemed unaware that he had delayed the action.
“You can’t do that. Oh, boy,” Mets TV analyst Keith Hernandez said.

There have been delays in games before when fans have run out onto the field. But a bat boy running behind home plate is a new one.
Scherzer, who looked plenty unhappy about the interruption, proceeded to allow a double to Travis d’Arnaud, the leadoff batter in the inning, and then another hit later in the frame, but he avoided allowing any runs thanks to nifty defense by New York.
He finished his outing with four hits allowed — half of which came in that inning — 11 strikeouts, no walks and no runs allowed in seven innings. The Mets won the game 6-2 to sweep a day-night doubleheader.

After the incident, viewers were concerned for the safety of the bat boy.
