Atlanta United have signed Middlesbrough striker Emmanuel Latte Lath for a new MLS record fee of $22 million (£17.6 million) plus add-ons.
The move easily surpasses the $16.2 million FC Cincinnati paid to sign Kevin Denkey earlier this winter.
The 26-year-old, who has two caps for Ivory Coast, departs the Championship club after a successful 18 months, during which time he scored 29 goals in 67 appearances.
Lath’s signature continues a very busy window for Atlanta, who confirmed the return of club legend Miguel Almirón on Thursday. Mateusz Klich has also signed from D.C. United.
Atlanta finished ninth in the Eastern Conference last season, but then upset Inter Miami in the first round of the playoffs, and will be looking to rejoin the top-tier sides in MLS in 2025.
The deal is also a record sale for Middlesbrough, overtaking Adama Traore’s exit to Wolves in 2018/19.
