PONTIAC — This season, the best in program history for the Armada football team, will never be forgotten.

But the Tigers might want forget what happened Friday.

Armada sputtered against Pontiac Notre Dame Prep, 45-19, in a Division 5 regional final at William Kozyra Alumni Field.

Senior quarterback Lucas Pratt threw two touchdowns for the Tigers, who finished at 10-2 overall.

“We had opportunities,” Armada coach Kyle Rowley said. “We battled. The kids never quit, and that’s why I’m so proud to be their head coach. We fought and we fought.”

Notre Dame Prep opened the scoring on a 31-yard touchdown pass midway through the first quarter. Then, just 2:30 into the second, the Fighting Irish’s quarterback found the end zone on a 5-yard keeper.

Armada countered with an impressive drive that resulted in a 12-yard touchdown pass to TJ Seiler. A successful point-after try made it a 14-7 deficit with 4:06 left in the first half.

But the Tigers’ momentum was abruptly extinguished when Notre Dame Prep returned the ensuing 99 yards for a touchdown.

“This is not the first time this has happened,” Rowley said. “This is the third time this year on a momentum kind of swing — and it just kills you. It really does. That kind of just deflated us.”

The Fighting Irish scored once more before halftime on a 7-yard pass with seven seconds remaining.
