After a lengthy break, the Penguins returned to the ice at Capital One Arena to take on the Washington Capitals. The first period of play was quiet from both sides but Pittsburgh would take control in the second. Jason Zucker got the scoring going with his third goal on the season. Later on in the period, Brock McGinn would find the back of the net by way of a shorthanded goal. Moments later, Jeff Petry would tally home another to put the Penguins out to a commanding 3-0 lead heading into the third. Washington would try to rally as they managed to get one by Casey DeSmith, but an empty-netter from the stick of Jake Guentzel would seal this one for Pittsburgh as they won the contest by a score of 4-1.
