With Selection Sunday nearly five weeks away, the NCAA women’s basketball selection committee will offer one of two peeks behind the curtain Thursday night, revealing their first in-season top-16 as of Feb. 15.

The full 68-team bracket will be announced at 8 p.m. ET on Sunday, March 17 on ESPN.

MARCH MADNESS: The 2024 women’s tournament full schedule

2024 NCAA women’s basketball top 16 reveal schedule

There will be two total reveals before Selection Sunday on March 17 (all times in Eastern Standard Time)

  • Thursday, Feb. 15 on ESPN at 6:30 p.m., preceding the South Carolina vs. Tennessee game
  • Thursday, Feb. 29 on ESPN at 6:30 p.m., preceding the Notre Dame vs. Virginia Tech game

Beginning in 2015, these preliminary, in-season rankings have offered insight into the committee’s criterion for seeding and selection while allowing the fortunate fans of college basketball’s best teams to see how they stand barely a month before March Madness.

Here’s a look at how last year’s initial top-16, who were revealed on Feb. 8, 2023, fared come tournament time:

Among the teams featured in the selection committee’s initial top-16 reveal over the past decade, only the 2017-18 Rutgers squad has missed out on the tournament entirely, and last season’s Kanas State outfit was the only other squad to enter the bottom half of the bracket.

The committee will also give each team a regional assignment, either in Albany, New York or Portland, Oregon, giving each team a sense of the geographic conditions they may face.
