The fourth event of the 2021-22 PGA Tour season gets going on Thursday, Oct. 7, in Las Vegas when the 2021 Shriners Children’s Open tees off at TPC Summerlin. The total purse comes out to $7 million and 500 FedEx Cup points are on the line for the winner. No PGA golfer has repeated as champion since 1998-99, when Jim Furyk won in consecutive years. Furyk also won in 1995 and finished as a runner up 10 years later.

Viktor Hovland and Brooks Koepka are listed as the co-favorites at 20-1 according to the latest 2021 Shriners Children’s Open odds from Caesars Sportsbook. Hovland won the Mayakoba Golf Classic last year, and came away with seven top-10 finishes. Sam Burns, who won last week’s PGA Tour event in Mississippi, is next in line on the PGA odds board at 22-1. Before locking in any 2021 Shriners Children’s Open picks, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

SportsLine’s proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed last June. In fact, it’s up almost $10,000 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

At the 2021 Open Championship, McClure’s best bets included Collin Morikawa winning outright even though he was listed as a massive 40-1 long shot. He was also all over Daniel Berger (+220) and Emiliano Grillo (+700) finishing inside the top-20. McClure’s best bets netted over $2,200 at the 2021 Open Championship.

In addition, McClure’s model was all over Jon Rahm’s (10-1) first career major championship victory at the 2021 U.S. Open. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the weekend, but the model still projected him as the winner. And at the 2021 Masters, McClure nailed Rahm’s (+250) top-five finish in his best bets, as well as Corey Conners’ (+550) top-10 showing.

This same model has also nailed a whopping seven majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now that the 2021 Shriners Children’s Open field is locked, SportsLine simulated the event 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected 2021 Shriners Children’s Open leaderboard.

The model’s top 2021 Shriners Children’s Open predictions

One major surprise the model is calling for at the 2021 Shriners Children’s Open: Koepka, an eight-time PGA Tour champion and one of the top favorites, doesn’t even crack the top five. Koepka is coming off an impressive season on the PGA Tour, winning the Waste Management Phoenix Open and securing a total of eight top-10 finishes.

However, Koepka missed the cut in his last start at the Shriners Children’s Open in 2019. Plus, the 31-year-old struggled to find the fairway off the tee last season, ranking 157th in driving accuracy percentage (56.63). His inability to find the fairway off the tee, coupled with his ineffectiveness around the green doesn’t bode well for his chances to finish on top of the leaderboard this week. He’s not a strong pick to win it all and there are far better values in the Shriners Children’s Open 2021 field.

Another surprise: Hideki Matsuyama, a 28-1 long shot, makes a strong run at the title. The Japanese golfer is already off to a solid start on the 2021-22 PGA Tour season with a tie for sixth place in the Fortinet Championship. Last season, he finished 14th in the FedEx Cup standings, and 17th in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Matsuyama was one of the tour’s best golfers when it came to birdie and eagle rate last year. Matsuyama’s birdie average of one every 4.06 holes played was tied with Jhonattan Vegas for 33rd amongst all pros. TPC Summerlin has also produced low scores in the past, which bodes well for Matsuyama. In fact, Matsuyama finished last season ranked 15th in strokes gained: tee-to-green (1.074) and 17th in strokes gained: approach the green (.614), making him a great choice for 2021 Shriners Children’s Open bets.

How to make 2021 Shriners Children’s Open picks

The model is also targeting three other golfers with odds longer than 28-1 who will make surprising runs. Anyone who backs these long shots could hit it big. You can only see them here.
