【 DCへようこそ, Rui! 】Rui Machida signs with WNBA’s Washington Mystics | 町田瑠唯がWNBAのワシントンミスティックスと契約

The Washington Mystics reached across the ocean and grabbed an international star to address their point guard position.

The team announced it has signed Rui Machida, who led Japan to the silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics last summer. The 5-foot-4 guard set the single-game Olympic record with 18 assists in an 87-71 victory over France. She averaged 7.2 points, 12.5 assists and 2.3 rebounds in the 2020 Games.

Machida is a star back home and doesn’t need the paycheck. She is bringing her game to the WNBA for the challenge of playing against the best in the world. The 28-year-old has averaged 10.7 points, 8.3 assists and 4.6 rebounds per game for the Japanese Basketball League’s Fujitsu Red Wave.
