Wimbledon 2024 is upon us, and as such the world’s best tennis players have all arrived in London ahead of the biggest grand slam event on the calendar. Last year’s tournament was one of the most memorable we’ve seen, so anticipate plenty of drama this time around too!
2023 men’s singles title winner Carlos Alcaraz announced himself to the sporting world with a five-set victory over Novak Djokovic in a final for the ages, but there’s been a sea-change in the ATP rankings since and he comes into the tournament as only the third-highest seed, behind Djokovic and world number one Jannik Sinner.
Similarly, last year’s women’s tournament was one of the most surprising in living memory, with unseeded Czechia star Marketa Vondrousova winning it all in one of the biggest upsets in the sport’s history. She’s seeded sixth ahead of the women’s singles competition kicking off for 2024 — will another outsider make as big a statement this year?
Qualifying is already well underway as players gauge to be included in the tournament’s final draw, which will get underway with the first round on Monday, July 1, 2024. Therein follows two weeks of world-class tennis, culminating with the women’s and men’s finals on July 13 and 14 respectively.
There’s hundreds of players and even more matches to keep tabs on as Wimbledon 2024 kicks into gear, and The Sporting News are on hand to look at the odds, predictions and best bets to make ahead of the action getting underway.
Wimbledon 2024: Odds to win men’s singles title
He may be a seven-time winner at the All England Club, but Novak Djokovic is only the third-favourite to win Wimbledon this year after losing an epic five-set final to Carlos Alcaraz in 2023. Djokovic’s withdrawal through injury in the French Open last month is likely weighing into his +400 moneyline with BetMGM, but he’s still the second seed going into the tournament.
Last year’s winner Alcaraz is the favourite with BetMGM as things stand, at a +160 odds, but that’s only just ahead of Jannik Sinner, who has exploded onto the scene in 2024. He was already a brilliant player who reached last year’s Wimbledon semifinals, but a maiden grand slam victory at the Australian Open and a semifinal appearance at Roland-Garros last month mean he’s the new world number one ahead of the biggest grand slam there is.
The odds widen massively outside the top three, with Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev sat on +1300 and +1700 respectively as fourth and fifth favourites. BetMGM can’t separate Hubert Hurkacz and US 13th-seed Taylor Fritz on +2000 further back, while British hopeful Jack Draper is at +2200.
Draper’s straight-sets victory over Alcaraz during Wimbledon’s pre-tournament warm-up at Queens Club could be a sign of things to come from the Londoner on home courts, who is eighth-favourite ahead of the +2500 moneyline leans given to Matteo Bettettini, Alex De Minaur and Gregor Dimitrov.

Wimbledon 2024: Odds to win women’s singles title
She’s been a losing semifinalist twice at the All England club, but after her dominant victory at the Australian Open earlier this year, Aryna Sabalenka is BetMGM‘s favourite to claim a maiden Wimbledon title at a +325. That’s just ahead of world number one Iga Swiatek at +375, who is also looking for her first success at Wimbledon.
In contrast, Elena Rykabina’s only career grand slam came on Centre Court in 2022, and she’s the third favourite ahead of US hopeful Coco Gauff. Naomi Osaka’s return to the circuit has been met with plenty of fanfare, so much so that despite currently being ranked 111th in the world, she’s joint-fifth favourite alongside last year’s losing finalist Ons Jabeur.

Wimbledon 2024: Best bet

The world number one in WTA tournaments comes into Wimbledon 2024 having just won her fourth French Open title, and third in a row, at Roland-Garros last month, but Iga Swiatek has never had much comparative success at the All England Club.
She won the US Open and reached the Australian Open semifinals in 2022, but such high tournament progression at Wimbledon has so far evaded her, with a quarterfinal finish last year being her best-ever placing on Centre Court.
We’re backing that to change in 2024 however, with the Polish 23-year-old in a rich vein of form. She’s second favourite behind this year’s Australian Open winner Aryna Sabalenka coming into the tournament, but we think that this time around, Wimbledon could finally be about to see the very best of Swiatek.

Last year’s women’s singles tournament produced shocks aplenty, with upset results in almost every round and two unseeded players in the semifinals. Those two unseeded players, wildcard Elina Svitolina and the unranked Marketa Vondrousova faced off, with the latter prevailing through to the final and beating sixth seed Ons Jabeur.
That’s the first time such an outside-chance victory has ever happened in the women’s singles tournament at Wimbledon, and as such we think that the +200 moneyline lean offered by FanDuel is certainly worth a shot — with last year’s competition showing that absolutely anything can happen in grand slam tennis.

Wimbledon 2024: Flier bet

This one has an outside chance of coming in, with five American players apiece seeded in the top 32 ahead of both the men’s and women’s tournaments. There’s no denying that women’s second seed Coco Gauff has the best chance of going all the way, but there’s several other competitors to keep an eye on.
In the men’s seedings, a trio of US players lie 12th, 13th and 14th respectively in the form of Tommy Paul, Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton. Fritz is joint-sixth favourite with BetMGM above, so it remains to be seen if he, Paul, Shelton, Sebastian Korda or Frances Tiafoe can go all the way.
World number two Gauff is closely followed by her fifth-seeded compatriot Jessica Pegula going into the women’s singles, while Danielle Collins (11), Madison Keys (12) and Emma Navarro (19) are all pretty high up the pecking order, suggesting that a US victory in either competition could well be on the cards.
