Two of the best teams in Division II college football will go head-to-head for the championship on Saturday, Dec. 21.
Both Valdosta State and Ferris State entered the playoffs as No. 1 seeds in their quadrant. The NCAA re-seeded teams that reached the semifinals, thus granting undefeated Valdosta State the top seed and Ferris State the second seed.
The Blazers have been utterly dominant in their unbeaten campaign. They’re 13-0 with only one game finishing within single digits. That was against North Greenville on the road on Oct. 12. Valdosta State has racked up three shutouts across the season, including a 73-0 victory.
Not many teams can compete with the firepower the Blazers bring, but Ferris State will try. The Bulldogs are elite, posting a 13-1 record with the only loss coming against Pittsburg State in August.
They’ve scored at least 34 points in 10 games, at least 40 in nine games, over 50 in six games and over 70 in two games (78, 84). The offense is there, and like Valdosta State, Ferris State doesn’t play many close games.
Twelve of the Bulldogs’ 13 wins are by double digits.
It’s expected to be a clash of two dominant teams in this year’s championship. Buckle up.
