Moyes’ Czech praise
West Ham’s sixth place finish in the Premier League last season meant they qualified for the Europa League. A huge achievement considering Arsenal, Spurs and Everton all failed to make the top 6.
David Moyes’ acquisitions of Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal have been a key part of the success at the club.
Both are considered two of the side’s most valuable assets having arrived from the dominant Czech Republic champions Slavia Prague.
Speaking after a 3-0 win over Southampton, it was clear from Moyes’ words regarding the duo that they were intent on qualifying for Europe.
‘I was having a laugh coming off the pitch with the Czech boys saying ‘great we are going to be in Europe’ but they said ‘no we have been in it plenty of times we know where to go’, they were having fun,’ said Moyes.
Both will be key when competing in Europe next season.
Coufal contract struggles
However, the Hammers may face an issue over the future of Coufal in particular.
According to Sky Sports, the right-back is struggling to agree terms on his West Ham future.
The 28-year-old was ‘let down’ by the opening offer from West Ham having helped them across 34 EPL appearances last season to achieve an unlikely target.
It is understood the initial contract extension offered to Coufal is weighted more on appearances and performances rather than a major hike in his basic salary, which has left the player feeling as though the quality of his performances is not being reflected.

With his best years coming presently, West Ham will not want to risk losing him to a rival as they push on from their stellar campaign.
