It’s not the Olympic trials, but the road to Paris starts now. Seventy-five gymnasts are competing in Fort Worth, Texas, during the four-day event in the hopes of earning a spot at the trials in a month.

After Day 1, it’s Simone Biles that leads on the women’s side. The greatest gymnast of all time scored a massive 60.450, becoming the first woman to score a60 points or more this quad. With two months to grow, it’s just what the Americans need to establish confidence among the leader of their five. Biles won each event as well.

Taking the competition by surprise was Skye Blakely. The 19-year old finished second in the all-around, on vault and beam. She made her case to the Olympic committee and seems like a shoo-in for the roster if she hits at Day 2 and trials.

The U.S. needs a strong all-around competitor with Shilese Jones out for the time. The star, who is a lock for one of the spots for Paris, pulled out of championships with a linger shoulder injury. She will petition for trials next month.

There’s still a whole competition left for gymnasts to make their final case for the Olympic trials. As the leaders remain the same, Day 2 is a chance for them to stand out on their best events, proving they belong is Paris.
