Video Transcript

The 2024 MLB draft is over.

Not really, but the first round is a lot of lives changed tonight, including the life of Jordan Schusterman.

Number one draft Dork, yes, I saw, I was here, I saw the first round of the draft.

The second round is still ongoing behind us.

We wanted to recap.

Kind of the most memorable and notable things that happened during uh round.

Number one.

Let’s start at the top.

Travis Pisana.

The Australian wonder can the wonder from down under as they call him?

Killed it.

My top player in this draft.

It was so cool to see Cleveland say uh yeah, he’s, he’s the top player in this draft.

I know it’s a discussion or maybe they’ll go under slot, maybe they’ll take a different player.

They went for Travis and I’m so excited uh to see what happens with next with, with his career.

He it’s been an unbelievable rise for him.

Not really a surprise at one, but we did certainly get a surprise at two with the Reds taking chase burns over Charlie Condon.

Condon was the player of the year in college baseball this past season.

Most drafts had Condon going to to the Reds but instead they go with Burns who was a pitcher at Wake Forest.

Yeah, and Burns, I mean, listen, you watch Chase Burns pitch.

It’s not that complicated.

He, he probably was the top pitcher in this draft, but that was a big decision.

And, and the dominoes from that are Charlie Connon goes three to Colorado and then Jack Hagley, maybe the most famous player in college baseball ends up going number six to Kansas City.

I want to go back to Condon for a second.

This dude hit 34 home runs more than that.

He takes a 37 and, and won the batting title and won the batting title and is now going to go get to hit in Coors Field like we’re relatively low, relatively on Condon.

But I would say that that’s a good marriage, a good place to, to keep putting up ridiculous numbers.

And the next thing once you get past kind of those top handful of picks, uh it’s the nationals at 10 I think were really interesting.

Just a couple of days ago, they made a trade with Kansas City, they traded reliever Hunter Harvey to Kansas City and got a competitive balance pick back pick 39.

So suddenly the day before the draft, they have an extra pick on night one.

So we were really curious what they were going to do and I’m fascinated with what they did.

They took sever King at number 10, an infielder or outfielder at Wake Forest, one of the most athletic players in the draft.

And then we wait till 39 they take a catcher, Caleb Loda, both of these guys, extremely athletic, really fun hitters to watch very aggressive swingers and the nationals.

We’re gonna see they’re developing hitters, we’ll see, we’ll see.

And, but if they can dial those approaches and those are very, what is it like?

Really interesting about it.

It’s a new scouting group for the NATS, like the people making these picks, these decisions totally different for this season.

And we saw a very unique strategy from them.

Now, Jordan, last question I have for you is one pick from the light.

The, the, let’s say the back half of the first round that you really like, I’m actually gonna go a little bit into the, into the compound.

I’m gonna go with Blake Burke first baseman from Tennessee going to the Brewers, their first pick, Bray and pay outfielder from Texas.

That one seemed like maybe a little bit of an aggressive pick.

Payne was not in my top 50 even though I understand why people like him.

But Burke, I love this guy just got so much better over his college career at Tennessee and I think he could absolutely rake in Milwaukee.

I really like what the Dodgers did of Kelly Lindsay, who was a high school shortstop from Florida from the middle of freaking nowhere.

Swampland Florida who didn’t get seen on the showcase circuit because he had a really poorly timed injury.

Last summer.

Reports started coming in this spring that this kid was really special, elite speed like top of the line runner.

Can he hit?

It’s impossible to know.

I don’t know if I can hit or Jordan can hit Dodgers usually can hit.

So we will find out, uh, and obviously many more to come.

We got day two and day three coming up over the next couple of days, but that’s round one.

I’m Jordan, that’s Jake and that’s then will be draft.

I would draft you, man.

Thanks Bud.

Yeah.
